Inhabitants of the Galtean Peninsula and Jylland, distant relatives to the Goblins. Any enemy that shows at least some modicum of civilization. Saurians (basically T-rexes) are also considered Wyrmkin, though they are the most primitive of their kind.Ī rough Wyrmkin pecking order probably looks like this: Vagrant Story’s dragons, on the other hand, are described as being possessed of a “cruel and cunning intellect”, which may either point to them being a separate dragon species or the influence of the Dark in Lea Monde. Wyverns, first introduced in Vagrant Story and later seen in FFXII, are also relatively unintelligent, having roughly an animal level of cunning. The Earth Tyrant entry refers to ‘eight legendary wyrms’, a group that probably includes several of the previously mentioned names.įinal Fantasy Tactics has a number of Dragon species that cannot fly, and are not particularly intelligent. Several legendary wyrms exist in Ivalice, including the Earth Tyrant, Tiamat, Ogma the Worldwyrm, Gerland the Magewyrm, Fafnir, the Lindwyrm, the Ring Wyrm, the Hell Wyrm, and Yiazmat, the lord of Wyrms. (There’s a potential Ogreverse tie-in here – the Ogre Battle canon talks about the “Bolsenian Era”, during which the Dragon Lords established a mighty empire that may have allied with the daemons during the Ogre Battle.) In FFXII, all greater dragons wear restraining ‘slave collars’ said to have been fashioned by the inhabitants of an ancient kingdom, who used them as weapons of war. There’s a War of the Gods and Wyrmkin alluded to in several bestiary entries, which took place in distant antiquity. The dragons of Ivalice are a surprisingly complex bunch. ![]()
